Peter Cirino is the Chief Executive Officer of A123 Systems. He joined A123 in May of 2016 serving as President of A123’s European Business before his appointment as Chief Executive Officer. Peter serves on the board of A123 and oversees all facets of the business globally.
Prior to joining A123, Peter spent over 20 years with TE Connectivity in roles of increasing responsibility. The last position he held was General Manager for the Southeast Asian Region and Senior Director, Strategy, Business Development, & Sales for Automotive, Asia Pacific. He has many years of experience in operations and general management and extensive international experience having lived 6 years internationally in Asia & Europe.
Peter earned a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He maintains offices at A123’s Livonia, Michigan headquarters as well as in Hangzhou, China.
Patrick Hurley began serving as the Chief Technology Officer of A123 Systems in August of 2014. Prior to joining A123, Dr. Hurley’s experience included technology leadership roles at Air Products and Chemicals and Johnson Controls Inc. In his previous role at Air Products and Chemicals, Dr. Hurley managed research programs in alternative energy production along with integrated circuits. During his role as director (IV) of Global Core Engineering at Johnson Controls Inc., Dr. Hurley directed a multi-disciplinary team to implement new technologies, processes and products in the Electrochemical Energy Storage space on a global scale.
Following the completion of his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at Purdue University, Dr. Hurley continued his studies in Solid State Physics as a Kavli Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Dr. Hurley has been awarded over $20M in U.S. Department of Energy grants and has served on numerous government panels for the advancement of science and engineering.
Mike O’Kronley joined A123 Systems in to 2011 and is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Corporate Strategy function. He is responsible for setting product and market strategies as well as leading all strategic initiatives including the company’s global footprint expansion and all M&A activity.
Mike has diverse industry experience in multiple functional areas, including; program management, product development, manufacturing operations, new business development, business planning and strategy development. He is credited with opening manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic and China. Prior to joining A123, Mike spent time at Metaldyne and Robert Bosch in various roles with increasing responsibilities and completed an expat assignment in Germany while at Bosch.
Mike Earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Master’s of Science from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.
Susan Butler serves as the Vice President of Program Management and Program Management Office (PMO) where she leads a high performing team of individuals responsible for product and system design and development of automotive battery management systems (BMS).
Susan came to A123 from Gentherm where she spent four years as the Executive Director of Global Program Management and Program Management Office (PMO). Previous experience was at Harman International Industries where Susan performed various roles with increasing responsibility. She has many years of experience as a technical leader and expertise in automotive product, process, system design and development.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University graduating in the top 1% of her class. She was the first to become certified as a Project Management Professional at Harman International Industries in 2003 setting the standard for Project Management.
Sam Trinch is Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Vice President of Customer Engagement at A123 Systems where he leads global sales and key account management, new business development, A123’s motorsports business unit, and A123 Systems GmbH. In 2014, Sam was based in Hangzhou, China acting as the Interim President of China leading the integration of Wanxiang’s existing Li-Ion battery business under A123.
Prior to joining A123 in 2009, Sam spent 17 years in automotive semiconductor and component sales and business unit leadership at Motorola Semiconductor (NXP), NEC Electronics (Renesas), and Lear Corporation, last holding the position of Vice President of Global Electronics Sales.
Mr. Trinch holds dual degrees in Electrical Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.
Troy Zerbe is the EVP & Head of Operations of A123 Systems. He joined A123 in October of 2016 serving as VP of Supply Chain before his current appointment. Troy is located in Hangzhou, China and is responsible for Operations, Supply Chain and Quality globally for A123.
Prior to joining A123, Troy spent over 25 years with Delphi Automotive in roles of increasing responsibility. The last position he held was Managing Director for Infotainment and Driver Interface PBU for North and South America with full P&L responsibility. He also held positions in Supply Chain, Operations and Engineering. He has held international assignments in Brazil, Mexico and China.
Troy earned a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Electrical Engineering Technology and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.
