How safe are the lithium ion batteries used in your L5s? What kind of testing has been done?
At A123Systems we have demonstrated with test data that our patented Nanophosphate™ technology is safe and certifiable to UL standards when overcharged, over discharged and subjected to mechanical and electrical abuse. The battery cells have also been tested and certified to UN transportation standards. Please visit the main A123Systems' website for detailed safety information at a123systems.com.
We have also taken extensive safety precautions at the L5 PCM system level. The L5 PCM contains a battery management system (BMS) that monitors the voltage of each cell in the pack along with the temperature of the battery modules. This information is fed into the L5 PCM BMS which automatically terminates charge or discharge in the event that any safety limits are reached. The L5 PCM is also equipped with a number of redundant safety features that will safeguard against unsafe operation even in the event of a BMS failure.Further, the L5 PCM has been crash tested in accordance with National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards, passing all tests.
