Is there a warranty for the Hymotion L5 and the batteries inside?

The L5 PCM comes with a limited 3 year warranty. Additional warranty options may be offered at a later date, as we gain more field experience with the L5 PCM.

Will the Hymotion Prius conversion alter the warranty given by Toyota?

A123 provides a limited warranty in the event Toyota voids its express Toyota warranty as a result of the installation or interaction with the L5 PCM. Please refer to our warranty for details. SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer's Association, provides consumers with guidance on understanding the legal protection for aftermarket products such as the L5, specifically the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. What happens at the end of the 3 year warranty?

After the 3 year period of the L5 PCM warranty has lapsed, repair or replacement of the L5 PCM is no longer covered by the warranty. You can still schedule and receive maintenance on your unit if necessary. Outside of the warranty period the cost for repair or replacement of the L5 PCM will be determined on a case by case basis depending on the cause and nature of the problem.

Where can I get service if I have a problem with my L5 PCM?

If you experience any problems with your L5 PCM, contact a Green CHIP dealer for technical assistance. Your Green CHIP dealer can help diagnosis the problem and repair it or replace the L5 PCM as required.

Is the L5 PCM recyclable? What happens to the L5 PCM at the end of the life of the vehicle?

The L5 PCM is recyclable. At the end of battery life, simply bring your vehicle back to your Green CHIP dealer and the L5 PCM will be removed and shipped to our certified recycling partner for proper recycling and disposal. We currently use Toxco, one of the world's leading battery recyclers, as our recycling partner.

How long will the L5 battery last?

The L5 PCM is built from an array of 616 A123Systems ANR26650M1 battery cells. The ANR26650M1cells have shown exceptional longevity under laboratory conditions, lasting the equivalent of many years of daily L5 PCM charge and discharge. However, at this time the L5 PCM itself has been operationally tested for only two years in the field, so we can't know for sure exactly how long it will last. We believe the L5 PCM will provide years of use, and have provided a limited warranty for 3 years.
